We plan on going back REAL SOON.
The campground is clean, folks are friendly. The creek is nice for young ones, you can get in about anywhere, also they have a start and stop at each end of the campground for tubing. There is a rest stop off route 28 a ways up towards the town of Newport, makes for a good beginner kayak run. If you check with the local water guys you can find out what time they let the dam out ,then ride the bubble back to the campground, it has for some decent rapids here and there, with some nice holes for swimming or lounging. A good time without having to spend a ton of money
I had such a grand time, the place was clean, lots to do....I can't wait to do it with my grand daughters. The stones I was able to remove from the stones are now around the neck of my granddaughter, Miss California.
means go here. The owners go out and dig up diamonds and then sell them in the store. Buy a sluice bag for the same price.
Staff needs to be more forthcoming on what is available, especially if its your first experience.
While it seems pricey - $12 adults; $10 child - it is for the entire day and you can come and go as you please. The facilities are clean and well marked which is very helpful for a family with young children. The ground sparkles with tiny minerals and diamonds almost everywhere you can walk. Many rocks have something interesting to observe even if they don't have a diamond in them. There is a small water fall on the grounds and different areas to hunt for diamonds. My family had a fantastic time and didn't want to leave. The staff members we interacted with were very friendly and send eager to answer questions and help. We are looking forward to a return trip in the future!
However, for a better experience, go next door to the Ace of Diamonds Mine. We've been going there for 6 years now. The owner, Ted, knocks walls down for easier access for his customers and its only $10 admission. We've always come home with something, never enjoy- handed! We love this place and always make new friends!
This experience was surprisingly fun for the whole family! I thought I'd be standing on the sidelines watching the kids have a blast, but I thoroughly enjoyed getting in on the action and was glad I did. I really loved that it promoted teamwork-it was great to see the kids helping each other out! The only con was the overpriced tools-$15.95 for a chisel, so come prepared with your own! All in all it was a wonderful experience and we most certainly plan on visiting again!
If you don't mind paying $12 per person to go digging and maybe not find anything, then by all
